NASA Awards California Institutions Solar System Grants

NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, Solar System Division, Washington has selected seven California institutions for grants to support the Outer Planets Research Program.

The Outer Planets Research program supports diverse scientific investigations that contribute to the understanding of the outer Solar System, ranging from the asteroid belt to the Kuiper Belt. The program includes both fundamental research and data analysis from NASA missions. Research institutions and maximum grant awards:

– NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, $524,779
– SRI International, Menlo Park, $577,963
– SETI Institute, Mountain View, $99,168
– Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, $394,760
– California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, $245,109
– University of California, Los Angeles, $1545, 253
– University of Redlands, Redlands, $91,765

The research also supports the Vision for Space Exploration, NASA’s long- term plan to return astronauts to the moon and extend exploration to Mars and beyond.
