CLEVELAND — Astronauts Leland Melvin and Mike Foreman will participate in the 93.1 WZAK live broadcast of the Tom Joyner Morning Show Back to School Campaign at Buchtel High School, 1040 Copley Road, Akron, Ohio on Friday, Aug. 6. The appearances are part of NASA’s initiative to engage students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM.

In addition, NASA’s Glenn Research Center will have educational activities and interactive displays at the event, which will be held from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants will be able to experience the Mobile Orion Vehicle Explorer and take home a free souvenir photo of themselves as an astronaut in space along with many giveaways.

Melvin, a veteran of two space flights, STS-122 in 2008, and STS-129 in 2009, has logged over 565 hours in space. Both missions visited the International Space Station and provided critical components, supplies and crew transport to or from the space station.

Foreman, also a veteran of two space flights, flew on STS-123 in March 2008, and STS-129 in November 2009, and has logged over 637 hours in space, including 32 hours and 19 minutes during five spacewalks. Foreman is a native of Wadsworth, Ohio.
