NASA astronaut Clayton Anderson will be the featured speaker at the University of Washington – Bothell on March 29. The “Imagine Mars” event is sponsored by UWB’s Space Huskies and is a student- led service outreach program designed to introduce participants to an interdisciplinary approach to designing a Mars colony.

Anderson’s visit will begin with a tour of UWB and the campus’ wetlands from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., Anderson will join the Space Huskies in the UWB North Creek Cafe, where he will give a presentation on the future of space exploration followed by a question-and-answer period. Anderson will also take time to view the Space Huskies 2006 outreach program work that is being showcased to the community. The displays feature UWB student-led projects in local elementary schools.

Selected by NASA in June 1998, Anderson reported to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston for initial training which included orientation briefings and tours, numerous scientific and technical briefings, intensive instruction in shuttle and International Space Station systems, physiological training, ground school to prepare for T-38 flight training, as well as learning water and wilderness survival techniques. Anderson most recently served as backup flight engineer for Expeditions 12 and 13 to the International Space Station.
