NASA Astronaut Bonnie Dunbar to Visit Seattle

Astronaut Bonnie Dunbar, (Ph.D) a veteran of five space missions, will
visit Seattle this week speaking at the University of Washington (UW)
and McGilvra Elementary School.

Dunbarís first appearance will be at UWís ì2001: A Career Odysseyî
career fair at 12:30 p.m., Jan. 18, in the UW HUB Auditorium. Dunbar
will deliver the keynote speech entitled ìFrom Apollo into the New
Millenniumî.

The next day, Dunbar will address students and teachers at McGilvra
Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. She will speak about the challenges of
human space flight and how a good education helps make the dream of
space travel a reality.

Dunbar has logged over 1,208 hours (50 days) in space as a mission
specialist during missions in 1985, 1990, and 1995, and as payload
commander in 1992 and 1998. Dunbar is an accomplished private pilot.

Currently, Dunbar serves as Assistant Director for University Research
and Affairs at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC). In this position,
she is the focal point for JSC’s educational and grant programs, and
collaborative efforts with colleges, universities, scientific, and
engineering organizations.

Dunbar is willing to do print or electronic media interviews before or
after the events, depending on schedule constraints.
