NASA Announces Beautiful Bay Trail Open to Public

MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. – News media are invited to attend the Moffett Field Bay Trail Grand Opening, a dedication ceremony celebrating the opening of a segment of the San Francisco Bay Trail that connects Mountain View and Sunnyvale, on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010.

As part of this 500-mile recreational corridor extending around the shoreline of San Francisco Bay, pedestrians and bicyclists will be able to enjoy the beauty of the bay and nature along the new trail segment behind Moffett Federal Airfield.

To celebrate the opening of this 2.4-mile trail, U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo will join other federal, state and local officials, conservationists and bicycle enthusiasts at this momentous event. Eshoo will join the mayors of Sunnyvale and Mountain View to cut bolts on a gate and allow a large gathering of bicyclists to ride onto the newly opened trail with unobstructed views of the Bay, Moffett Field, historic Hangar One and former salt ponds.

What: Grand opening of Moffett Gap, a section of the Bay Trail linking Sunnyvale and Mountain View as part of the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project

When: From 11 a.m. to noon PDT Monday, Sept. 20, 2010

Where: Levee behind Moffett Field at Gate 14 A, off of East Patrol Road

Directions to site: Traveling south on Highway 101, take the Ellis Street exit. Turn left on Ellis Street following signs to Moffett Field. At Macon Road, take a right and proceed through the gate. Follow Macon Road around the perimeter of Moffett Field. Take a right on East Patrol Road, continue past the golf course on left, and parallel park along the road as you approach the event site.
