NASA Ames Celebrates Mars Twin Rovers’ Many Accomplishments

MOFFETT FIELD, Calif., – The Mars Exploration Rovers (MER), Spirit and Opportunity, continue to provide NASA with valuable insight about the planet Mars. Although the rovers had a life expectancy of 90 days, they have continued science operations on the Red Planet for five years.

WHAT: NASA’s Ames Research Center will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Mars Exploration Rovers accomplishment with a series of Mars-related lectures and activities.

WHERE: The Ames Exploration Center at NASA’s Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif. To reach NASA Ames, take U.S. Highway 101 to the Moffett Field, NASA Parkway exit and drive east on Moffett Boulevard towards the main gate and bear right into the parking lot. The Exploration Center is located in the large white dome.

WHEN: Noon to 4 p.m. PST on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009.

WHO: NASA Ames Mars experts, including

– Dave DesMarais, MER science operations working group lead;
– Nathalie Cabrol, MER co-investigator and participating scientist; and
– Mike Sims, MER co-investigator and participating scientist.
