Momentous first year of the UK Space Agency – Annual Report and Accounts 2011-2012

The first UK Space Agency Annual Report and Accounts (2011-2012 has been published and laid before the House of Commons this week (Monday 16 July 2012).

The report marks a year since the Agency became a fully executive agency of the Department for Business Innovation and Skills and outlines the activities and achievements of each directorate and sets down the financial position and performance for the year. The Agency is involved in a wide range of activities which include:

– funding allocation to encourage technological innovation;
– licensing for space craft and;
– exploring the potential for satellite broadband in the UK.

Various other collaborative work has been undertaken to fulfil the Agency mission statement:
“To work at the heart of the UK efforts to explore and benefit from space. To provide funding for a range of programmes and work closely with national and international academic, education and community partners.”

The UK Space Agency’s has established itself over its first year and is now in a strong position to oversee the funding and management of UK space activities. The Agency will continue to demostrate its ability and flexibility to meet the ambitions for UK growth and drive for economic impact.
