Officials with the National Air, Sea & Space Foundation, organizers of the 2014 Melbourne Air & Space Show, today announced that the Foundation will host its inaugural Aerospace & Aviation Career Day on Oct. 3 at the Melbourne International Airport. This science, technology, engineering and math-based (STEM) initiative will take place just prior to the Melbourne Air & Space Show, which will be held Oct. 4-5. The show is sponsored by the Northrop Grumman Corporation.

The Aerospace & Aviation Career Day, held in cooperation with the Brevard Schools Office of Career and Technical Education and the Melbourne Regional Chamber of Commerce, will provide approximately 250 students with a behind-the-scenes look at the show, general assembly discussions, aircraft tours and more.

“Northrop Grumman is excited to sponsor the 2014 Melbourne Air & Space Show and its related events, including the Aerospace & Aviation Career Day at TechXpo,” said Rick Matthews, Vice President, Melbourne Operations and Director, Manned Aircraft Design Center of Excellence. “Through this inaugural Career Day, we aim to provide an inspiring and educational experience to the students of Brevard County, sparking their interest to further explore careers in STEM. Ultimately, our involvement in the Aerospace & Aviation Career Day at TechXpo reiterates Northrop Grumman’s commitment to STEM initiatives.”

Northrop Grumman, a key partner in establishing this first-ever STEM event, recognizes the concerning statistics regarding the small number of students who are interested in STEM-related careers. To help address this challenge, Northrop Grumman and its employees are dedicating time to teach and encourage young people by developing relationships with local schools and establishing partnerships that enhance the quality of education, which in turn helps improve academic performance. The company is also focusing resources on education programs and partnerships.
