Members of the news media are invited to join the aerospace and engineering industry at an Open House April 19 at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. The event will highlight the value — to NASA, Louisiana and the nation — of the Michoud complex, where contractors manufacture, assemble and process the space shuttle external tank.

The event will update industry about progress of NASA’s Constellation Systems Launch Vehicles Program, slated in the coming decade to build and fly vehicles that will lift future generations of explorers to the moon, Mars and beyond. Elements of the new launch systems will be manufactured and processed at the Michoud facility.

NASA speakers will include Patrick Scheuermann, chief operating officer of the Michoud facility; David King, director of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.; Mark Geyer, deputy manager of NASA’s Constellation Program at Johnson Space Center in Houston; and Steve Cook, manager of NASA’s Constellation Systems Launch Vehicles Project Office at the Marshall Center.

Michoud also will welcome Michael J. Olivier, secretary of economic development for Louisiana, who is expected to address attendees during the session.

WHEN: The session will begin at 9 a.m. CDT April 19.

WHERE: NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility; New Orleans East, off Interstate 510, Exit 246A

TO ATTEND: News media interested in covering the event should contact Kim Newton at (256) 544-0371 no later than Monday, April 17. On the morning of the event, media must report to the lobby of Stennis Building 101 with photo identification.
