GeoEye, Inc. (Nasdaq: GEOY), a leading producer of satellite, aerial and geospatial information, announced that CEO Matthew O’Connell received the prestigious Intelligence Achievement Award for Industry from the United States Geospatial Foundation (USGIF). Mr. O’Connell will be presented the award on Oct. 24 at the USGIF’s Hall of Fame banquet during the GEOINT 2007 symposium in San Antonio, Texas.

Every year the USGIF presents awards to the most influential members of the geospatial intelligence community. This year’s six awards recognized the top candidates in the following categories: academic achievement, academic research, government intelligence achievement, military intelligence achievement, industry intelligence achievement and the lifetime achievement award.

“This award from the USGIF is a great honor. It’s a tribute to all the men and women of GeoEye who make our success possible,” O’Connell said. “The award is also a testament to our mission partners at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency who have been critical to our success. GeoEye’s success is proof that the commercial remote sensing industry is a robust long-term partner for the Intelligence community.”

O’Connell joined ORBIMAGE in 2001 and led the company through the merger with Space Imaging in 2006 when the two companies combined to create GeoEye. He joined the company after a failed launch in the fall of 2001 and guided the company through a bankruptcy in 2003 and the unexpected loss of OrbView-3 in March 2007. More recently, O’Connell has been at the helm throughout the construction and testing of GeoEye-1, the next-generation satellite slated to launch next spring. O’Connell has helped GeoEye grow from 60 employees to more than 390 employees at four locations in the United States.

The USGIF is a non-profit, Virginia-based corporation devoted to promoting geospatial-intelligence for the purposes of advancing public discussing, education and government operations. For more information on the Foundation, please visit http://www.usgif.org. About GeoEye
