Siran Stacy, Former University of Alabama Running Back, to Speak

What: NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., will hold a workforce rally Nov. 1 for the Combined Federal Campaign, the annual goodwill drive to support charitable organizations at the local, state and national levels. Siran Stacy, a former running back at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, will be the guest speaker. Representatives of numerous Huntsville-area charitable organizations will participate in an expo during the event, talking with Marshall team members about their services. Members of the media are invited to attend.

Denoting the Combined Federal Campaign’s half-century of service and support for those in need, this year’s Marshall rally theme is “Thanks For Giving: 50 Years of CFC.” Since it was founded in 1961, the national effort has raised nearly $7 billion for charitable organizations.

The fund drive is part of the Tennessee Valley Combined Federal Campaign — a joint effort that also includes the Army’s Aviation and Missile Command and other federal agencies at Redstone Arsenal and in surrounding Alabama and Tennessee counties. The Marshall Center seeks to raise $700,000 by the campaign’s end Dec. 16.

Who: Siran Stacy, an accomplished running back for the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa from 1989-1991, went on to play in the NFL and the World Football League. In 2007, he lost his wife and four of his five children when a drunk driver collided with their family van. Now he travels as a motivational speaker, sharing the importance of family, community and spirituality as healing forces in the face of tragedy.
