Lockheed Martin-built GE-6 satellite shipped to Baikonur for October launch

The GE-6 telecommunications satellite, designed and built by Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems (LMCSS) for GE American Communications (GE Americom), was recently shipped from production facilities in Sunnyvale, CA to Baikonur, Kazakhstan, where it will be readied for a late October launch.
GE-6, a hybrid C/Ku-band satellite with 28 Ku Band and 24 C Band active transponders, will join the GE Americom fleet of satellites and will provide direct-to-home (DTH), media and entertainment distribution plus enterprise and internet protocol (IP)solutions in North America. The spacecraft will be lofted into orbit on a Proton booster provided by International Launch Services and, upon authorization by the Federal Communications Commission, will operate at 72 degrees West Longitude.
