LLNL and US Army Space and Missile Defense Command to unveil Solid State Heat Capacity Laser

What: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, in conjunction with The High Energy
Laser Systems Test Facility (HELSTF), a subordinate element of the U.S. Army Space
and Missile Defense Command (SMDC), will unveil its new Solid State Heat Capacity
Laser (SSHCL) during a ribbon cutting ceremony. The SSHCL program began in FY97
through congressional funding under an agreement between SMDC and Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in California. The first of its kind, the SSHCL is
a 10-kilowatt laser designed with high potential for the Army’s Future Combat System
(FCS) applications.

Who: The guest speaker for the ceremony will be Lt. Gen. Joseph M. Cosumano Jr.,
commanding general, SMDC.

When: 10 a.m. MDT on September 28, 2001

Where: White Sands Missile Range, N.M.

(drivers license) and current proof of auto insurance and registration at the entrance
to WSMR.
