Japanese Subject to Begin Living in a Space Station Simulation Module at the Russian Institute for Biomedical Problems for a Long-term Isolation Exper

The National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) has
participated in the long-term isolation experiment at the Russian
Institute for Biomedical Problems (IBMP/Moscow) since July this year,
attaining psychiatric and psychological data. The aim of this
participation is to study supportive measures for mental and
psychological conditions of astronauts who will board the
International Space Station (ISS) as crew members.
NASDA announces that a Japanese subject will shortly begin living
in an isolation module as according to the initial plan of this
long-term isolation experiment.

The Japanese subject, along with 3 other subjects (Australian,
Canadian, and Russian), will spend 110 days (from Dec. 3, 1999 to
Mar. 22, 2000) in the isolation module as an ISS environmental
simulation, performing various tasks and undergoing psychological
tests.
