Iridium(R) Satellite announces the appointment of John Roddy as executive vice president for ground operations and product development. With more than 27 years of telecommunications and information technology industry experience, Roddy has worked with Iridium over the last year as a consultant and, since joining the executive team, is responsible for having developed Iridium’s corporate operations model.

Roddy has joined Iridium to lead a terrestrial and gateway network technology operations organization that is focused on everything from customer care to product development.

“We value John’s expertise and his ability to quickly make a big impact on how we deliver the best possible products and services to our partners and customers,” said Matt Desch, Iridium CEO and chairman. “As we innovate to create new products and services, and continue to grow faster than any mobile satellite services company worldwide, we value having leadership that understands how to care for our customers and get the most out of our network.”

Prior to working with Iridium, Roddy was the president of Telcordia Global Services in New Jersey where he also served as senior vice president of global operations and chief information officer. Before joining Telcordia Technologies, Roddy built a distinguished career with Nortel Networks, serving as vice president and general manager of professional services. He also served as vice president of technology and director, Ottawa Laboratories, for public carrier networks. In that role, he was responsible for the core hardware and software development of the switching product line. Roddy is based in the company’s Tempe, Ariz. facility and reports directly to Desch.
