Intelsat, the recently privatized commercial communications satellite
provider, today officially opened the new headquarters for Intelsat
Global Sales & Marketing Limited in London.

Ann Keen, MP for Brentford & Isleworth, the constituency in which the
office is located, presided at the event at the Chiswick Park
headquarters site.

Intelsat was the world’s first global commercial communications
satellite provider, and the company that carried the television
pictures of man’s first walk on the moon. Today, Intelsat provides
voice, data, Internet and video services for many of the world’s
leading telecommunications companies, broadcasters and multinational
corporations in more than 200 countries and territories, through a
fleet of 21 communications satellites.

John Stanton, President of Intelsat Global Sales & Marketing Limited,
said, “A significant proportion of Intelsat’s 2000 revenue (28
percent), came from European customers and another 15 percent was in
Africa and the Middle East. So with almost half our customer base
operating in the same general time zone as London, it makes good
commercial sense to headquarter our global sales and marketing
operations here in London.

Today, more than 100 UK-based communications companies are customers
of Intelsat, and both BT and Cable & Wireless rank among our largest
customers. Chiswick, as the western gateway to London, is an excellent
place for us to locate our operations.”

Ann Keen MP said, “I am delighted that a company of the caliber of
Intelsat has decided to locate such a key part of its global business
here in Chiswick. This decision reinforces Hounslow’s position as one
of Britain’s most important business locations.”
