Monics® Enterprise Addresses New RF Interference Monitoring Challenges in Increasingly Congested Space Environment
Kratos announced release of Monics® Enterprise for satellite and network operators to monitor and detect RFI created by hundreds of GEO satellites, thousands of emerging small sats, and millions of VSAT terminals. Intelsat, a long-term Monics NET user, recently began using Monics Enterprise to monitor performance and detect interference across its entire fleet, including the company’s new EpicNG high-performance, next-generation satellites. The innovative EpicNG platform utilizes C-, Ku- and Ka-bands; wide beams, spot beams, and frequency reuse technology.

According to Butch Philbrick, VP Network Operations, “Intelsat’s growing satellite fleet of Fixed Service Satellites (FSS), High Throughput Satellites (HTS) and hybrid wide beam/spot beam satellites presents us with more complex resource management challenges, requiring greater insights. Monics Enterprise helps us master those challenges with greater control of our workforce processes and better visualization into real time operations.” With Monics’ User Access Controls, operators can give customers real-time visibility, limited to their own space segments, with map-based displays of global satellite operations.

Kratos also introduced Monics® 200, a cost effective, intelligent sensor for HTS Spot Beam Monitoring for detecting and analyzing interfering signals. Whereas FSS wide beams cover large areas, the potentially hundreds of smaller spot beams on one HTS satellite require a more cost-effective and intelligent approach for delivering quality of service. Monics 200 is a self-contained, standalone device that can be integrated with other Monics products to economically broaden the monitoring footprint for satellite operators launching next-generation HTS satellites and similar applications.
