Important Participation of the Canadian Space Agency at the Wireless Vision Global Congress

Saint-Hubert, Quebec, September 25, 2001 – The Canadian Space Agency will
take part in a number of key events during the Wireless Vision Global
Congress which will be held September 26-28, 2001, in St-John’s,
Newfoundland, to mark Marconi’s legacy, the 100 years of wireless
communications.

Wednesday, September 26
2:30 p.m.(Local Time)

Opening Keynote Address and Introductory message by Dr. Marc Garneau,
Executive Vice President, Canadian Space Agency
Dr. Garneau will introduce author Sir Arthur C. Clarke and will be offering
his viewpoints on Canada’s history in space, speaking about the pursuit of
innovative ideas from satellite communications to direct broadcast
transmission.

Thursday, September 27

The First Classroom Presentation from the International Space Station
Expedition III Commander, NASA astronaut Frank Culbertson and fellow crew
members will become Canada’s first on-orbit guest-educators during an
innovative and unique learning opportunity, webcast live to students across
the country. The ISS Classroom will be a groundbreaking example of how
wireless technology can be used to disseminate knowledge and ideas to
students in every part of Canada. Media availability and Q&A session follows
the event

Dialogue Session with CSA President Mac Evans: From Sea to Sky – Satellite
Communications
The President of the Canadian Space Agency, Mr. Mac Evans, will expand on
the history of the Canadian Space Program and explore how Canada’s satellite
communications system supports Canada’s commitment to “connect Canadians”.

Telemedicine Demonstration with a remote community in Labrador
Dr. Carl Robbins, Chair of Memorial University’s Telemedicine Centre will
showcase a telemedicine project funded partly by the CSA through a program
of the European Space Agency (ESA). A photo opportunity will be held with
participants.
