Genesis Mission Status Update
After a flawless launch on August 8 at 12:13:40 p.m. EDT, the Genesis spacecraft is on its mission to “catch a piece of the sun.” View JPL news release and launch replay at: http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/releases/2001/release_2001_169.html

Kennedy Space Center maintains a photo archive of images that reveal mission progress from the time of spacecraft arrival at Cape Canaveral until the time of launch. A Back to School Apple for the Colorado Region Science Teacher
Colorado region science teachers, are you planning to attend the October 4-5 Colorado Science Convention in Denver? Look for the Genesis booth #216 at the Denver Merchandise Mart. Exhibits are open from 4:00-6:30 p.m. on Thursday and 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m. Friday. Among the classroom “freebies” to look for are the recently-produced Genesis launch poster featuring the rocket during takeoff and several new Genesis education samplers.
There will be a Genesis education presentation on Friday, Oct. 5 from 2:50-3:50 in Room D 30-36. The presentation is titled: “Cosmogony: A Spongy Universe,” and will feature a hands-on activity to use in your science classroom. If you are looking for a multifaceted way to bring the National Science Education Standards into your curricula in a substantive and real-world way, don’t miss this!

Genesis and the Scout Report
The Internet Scout Project has selected the Genesis mission Web site for inclusion in the Scout Report, listed in its “Two from Space” item at: http://scout.cs.wisc.edu/report/sr/2001/scout-010824.html A weekly current awareness publication that highlights new and newly discovered Internet resources, they “cover only the most useful resources, considering the depth of content, the authority of the source, and how well the information is maintained and presented.” The Scout Report is the “flagship publication of the Internet Scout Project.” Published since 1994, the Scout Report is one of the Internet’s oldest and most respected publications. It provides a fast, convenient way to stay informed of valuable resources on the Internet.
The Internet Scout Project is located in the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is sponsored by the National Science Foundation to provide timely information to the education community about valuable Internet resources.
Genesis Mission Outreach E-News features information about the mission, its outreach Web site, and products, services, and materials available from the McREL Genesis Education and Public Outreach (EPO) team. NASA’s Discovery 5 Mission: Genesis is managed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
