First Shuttle crew join Marshall Center employees to celebrate 20th anniversary of launch

What: The STS-1 crew – Commander John Young and Pilot Bob Crippen – will
join NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., on Tuesday,
April 24, to mark the 20th anniversary of the first Space Shuttle launch.
Young and Crippen will sign a plaque to be attached to a Space Shuttle Main
Engine for permanent display at Marshall. They will also cast their
footprints for the Center’s “Footprints to the Future” Award that will be
placed in the courtyard of the Wernher von Braun Office Complex. The event
symbolizes contributions made to the Shuttle program by Marshall whose
propulsion technology launches the Space Shuttle into orbit

When: April 24, 2001 from 10 to 11 a.m. CDT, followed by lunch

Footprints ceremony and Main Engine signing are planned for 11 a.m.

NOTE: Effective Jan. 1, all drivers requesting a visitor pass to Redstone
Arsenal will be asked at the gate to provide proof of liability insurance on
their vehicle if it is registered in Alabama. Failure to provide proof of
such insurance will result in denial of a pass, and drivers also may be
issued a citation. This is being done in compliance with Alabama’s Mandatory
Insurance Act.
