Omega Envoy, the Florida team competing in the Google Lunar X PRIZE (GLXP), and its parent company, Earthrise Space Inc (ESI), announce today the launch of a project on Kickstarter.com, the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects. Rewards offered for backers of the project include 3D printed and metal milled models of the team lunar rover, tours of ESI Orlando facility, opportunities to test drive the team actual lunar rover, and the opportunity for individuals to fly their DNA to the moon. The Kickstarter project will raise funding to allow the purchase of a multi-axis CNC milling machine. ESI student team will gain hands-on experience using this machine during construction of the company lunar spacecraft.

For the first time in human history, individuals will have the opportunity to send a sample of their DNA to the lunar surface. This interplanetary backup will ensure the survival of their genetic material independent of conditions here on Earth. For a pledged donation of $10,000 or more, ESI will collect your DNA sample, package it into a storage container mounted on the company Lunar Descent Vehicle and fly it to the surface of the moon where it will be preserved for all time.

We are excited to be exploring new approaches for fundraising and for public engagement, including through the crowdsourcing Kickstarter platform, said ESI Chief Operating Officer (COO) Joseph Palaia. We are hopeful that this Kickstarter project helps us to make significant progress towards our near-term fundraising goals, while also providing some incredible rewards for our supporters.
Kickstarter serves as an ideal platform by which ESI can engage the public and allow them direct participation in the company lunar mission. It is a new, innovative way to fund creative projects and is known for having helped to fund tech start-ups, comic books, video games, food products and many other projects.
