Dr Ulrich Cartellieri appointed as Non-Executive Director of British Aerospace Plc

British Aerospace is pleased to announce that Dr Ulrich Cartellieri will be joining the Board of Directors as a
non-executive Director with effect from
1 December 1999. Dr Cartellieri is presently a member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank AG and he
is also a director of Robert Bosch GmbH, Henkel KGaA and Deputy Chairman of DEG, the Federal Government
owned German Investment and Development Company.


Dick Evans, Chairman, BAe, said “I am pleased to welcome Dr Cartellieri to British Aerospace. Ulrich brings a
breadth and depth of commercial experience in global markets and will be a valuable member of our Board”.


Ulrich Cartellieri, born 1937, studied law and economics at the universities of Munich and Cologne (JD, German
Bar examination). From 1966 to 1970 he specialised on legal, foreign trade and direct investment affairs in New
York and Washington. In 1970 he joined Deutsche Bank, where he became involved with the development of
the bank’s business in Asia for more than 25 years. In 1975 he became managing director, in 1977 CEO, in
1982 Chairman of European Asian Bank, subsequently of Deutsche Bank Asia.


From 1981 to 1997 he was a member of the Deutsche Bank Group Managing Board with responsibilities for the
treasury and global markets operations, risk management, economics, and the domestic branch network in the
Rhine-Ruhr region. He also served as Deputy Chairman of Deutsche Bank North America.


In 1997 Dr Cartellieri was elected to the Deutsche Bank Supervisory Board, where he serves on the executive,
personnel, credit and market risk, audit and mediation committees.


Dr. Cartellieri has held corporate, professional, scientific and philanthropic directorships and mandates.


He is, i.a., a member of the International Capital Markets Advisory Committee of the Federal Reserve bank of
New York, co-Chairman of the German-Japanese Forum, former co-Chairman of the Indo-German Consultative
Group and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Deutsche Nationalstiftung. He also serves on various
academic advisory bodies.


In 1999 he was elected President of the German Society on Foreign Affairs.


Dr Cartellieri has been a lecturer/writer on developments of the financial markets, European Monetary Union,
German economic policies and other issues.
