Dr. Nicogossian Leaves on an IPA Assignment

Following a long and distinguished career with NASA and after
spending the last seven months setting the course for the newly
established Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer, Dr.
Arnauld Nicogossian will begin an IPA assignment on January 2,
2001, that will share his world-class expertise in space medicine
with both the Uniformed Services University of the Health
Sciences and the University of Maryland.  As the Agency’s
Chief
Health and Medical Officer, Dr. Nicogossian led efforts to
develop the Agency’s infrastructure for best medical practices,
professional development and training for the Agency’s future
medical needs.

Dr. Nicogossian’s wealth of experience and leadership, dating
back to the Apollo-Soyuz Program, will remain available to the
Agency.  He will maintain an office at Headquarters and serve
in
a consultative capacity to the Agency.

Effective immediately, Dr. Richard Williams is named Acting Chief
Health and Medical Officer.  Dr. Williams is the former
Director
of NASA’s Office of Health Affairs and is currently serving as
the Deputy Chief Health and Medical Officer.
