Black Sky: Reaching for the X Prize Premieres on Discovery Channel on Thursday, October 7 at 9 PM (ET/PT)

Jump aboard SpaceShipOne on Thursday, October 7 at 9 PM (ET/PT) when Discovery Channel’s exclusive cameras
go inside the supersonic rocket plane. Viewers will experience the momentous
ride as SpaceShipOne reached sub-orbital space and safely returned to Earth in
the California Mojave Desert to win the $10 million Ansari X Prize.

Discovery Channel was the only television production team allowed to
follow Rutan, his engineers and test pilots as they got this revolutionary,
privately financed rocket plane off the ground. In the hour-long special,
Discovery Channel will air the exclusive footage from SpaceShipOne’s second
launch (10/4), revealing the milestone event and the compelling sights and
sounds of the historic flight.

SpaceShipOne was designed by aviation pioneer Burt Rutan, financed by
Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen and piloted by veteran test pilot Brian
Binnie.

Watch Rutan from the beginning of the revolutionary project as he prepared
and built SpaceShipOne for its successful September 29 flight in the X Prize
competition when BLACK SKY: THE RACE FOR SPACE has an encore presentation on
Thursday, October 7 at 8 PM (ET/PT).
