Department of Commerce to Co-Host Workshop on Bringing New Industries to Space

Under Secretary of Commerce for Technology, Phillip J. Bond, will deliver welcoming keynote remarks at 8:30 a.m. to open a one-day conference entitled, “Market Opportunities in Space: The Near-Term Roadmap.” The newly confirmed Under Secretary will address the importance of technology to America’s prosperity.

The co-sponsors of the conference include the Technology Administration’s Office of Space Commercialization, the Space Enterprise Council of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Space Transportation Association. The conference is from
8:00a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The conference is designed to look for market growth from industries not currently associated with commercial space such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and power generation. The conference will include panel discussions with a business focus that are designed to work with industry leaders, federal officials and academics to define future markets, barriers, and the necessary conditions for market growth.
