Computer Sciences Corporation announced today that it has won a contract to provide supercomputing support services to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). CSC estimates the value of the contract, which has a two-year base period and eight one-year options, to be $597 million if all options are exercised.

Under the terms of the agreement, CSC will provide supercomputing services to the NASA Advanced Supercomputing Division at Ames Research Center. The division operates some of the largest, most advanced supercomputers in the world and is the lead facility for high performance computing (HCP) for NASA. In addition, CSC will provide supercomputing support and HPC-related research to the NASA Center for Computational Sciences at Goddard Space Flight Center.

“For the past 40 years, CSC has demonstrated the technical expertise, commitment and management to produce significant results for NASA,” said Tom Anderson, president of CSC’s North American Public Sector Civil Division. “CSC is pleased to expand our relationship with NASA and help advance the agency’s mission in pioneering the future of space exploration, scientific discovery and aeronautics research.”

Through NASA’s High End Computing Program, the agency operates and maintains some of the world’s most powerful supercomputing environments. Located at NASA’s Advanced Supercomputing Division and its Center for Computational Sciences, these environments provide the computational capability necessary to enable NASA’s mission success and facilitate revolutionary advancements in science and engineering.
