Call for Robert J. Collier Trophy Nominations

The nomination period for the National Aeronautic Association’s Robert J. Collier Trophy will open on January 1, 2017 and will close on January 31, 2017.

The Collier Trophy is awarded annually “for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America, with respect to improving the performance, efficiency, and safety of air or space vehicles, the value of which has been thoroughly demonstrated by actual use during the preceding year.”

The term “in America” is defined as a company, entity or individual based in the United States or a foreign subsidiary doing the development and manufacturing of aerospace products in the United States.

The Collier Trophy is named for Robert J. Collier. A prominent publisher, patriot, sportsman, and aviator, Collier commissioned the trophy and donated it to the Aero Club of America (now the National Aeronautic Association) in 1911. Its purpose was to encourage the positive aspects of aviation.

The 535-pound bronze trophy is the work of Baltimore sculptor Ernest Wise Keyser and is on permanent display in the National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C. The trophy is presented annually at the NAA Collier Trophy Dinner.
