BridgeComm Appoints Retired NASA Astronaut Dr. Sandra Magnus to Advisory Board

BridgeComm, Inc., a leader in optical wireless communications (OWC) solutions and ­services, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Sandra Magnus to its advisory board. A retired NASA astronaut who is currently the principal of AstroPlanetview, she brings a wealth of industry knowledge to BridgeComm’s rich, diverse and highly experienced advisory board, guiding its growth while identifying and capitalizing on emerging industry trends that will shape the future of OWC.

Dr. Magnus’ space flights include NASA’s 2002 STS-112 and 2011 STS-135 shuttle missions, as well as

the November 2008 flight to the International Space Station, where she served as flight engineer and science officer on Expedition 18. Upon returning home on STS-119 after four and a half months onboard, she served at NASA headquarters in the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate. Her work with the international community includes the European Space Agency and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, to name a few. Additionally, Dr. Magnus served as the deputy director of engineering at the Office of the Secretary of Defense for the undersecretary of research and engineering. 

 

Dr. Magnus received a Ph.D. from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Georgia Tech and has received numerous honors and awards, including the NASA Space Flight Medal, NASA Distinguished Service Medal and NASA Exceptional Service Medal, among others.
