Boeing Satellite Systems Inc. (BSS) Appoints Two to Senior Positions
Boeing
Satellite Systems Inc. (BSS), the world’s largest manufacturer of
commercial communications satellites, has appointed two people to top
management positions.
BSS is a unit of The Boeing Company . Chris Stephens Jr.
has been named Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for BSS. Dr.
William Ballhaus is now General Manager of Boeing Electron Dynamic
Devices Inc. (EDD), the world’s leading provider of integrated
high-power microwave amplifiers.
Stephens is responsible for all financial management activities of
BSS and its Electron Dynamic Devices and Spectrolab companies. Since
joining BSS in 1999, he was the Vice President of Finance-Operations
responsible for financial support to the operating units, including
supply chain management.
Prior to BSS, he was the Director of Finance for AlliedSignal’s $3
billion Aerospace Equipment Systems business located in Torrance,
Calif. Stephens also held various management positions at the
corporate and business unit levels at Ingersoll-Rand Co.
Stephens received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from
Kings’ College and a master in business administration degree in
corporate finance from Virginia Tech. Additionally, he is a Certified
Public Accountant.
Ballhaus is responsible for leading EDD as a strategic core
business for BSS. He has more than 11 years of experience in the
aerospace industry, including seven years at BSS. Most recently he was
Director of Integrated Satellite Factory Operations, where he was
responsible for overall product delivery performance for the world’s
largest satellite manufacturing operation.
Ballhaus received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical
engineering from U.C. Davis, master of science and PhD degrees in
aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University and a master in
business administration degree from the Anderson Graduate School of
Management at UCLA. He has one patent in the area of advanced payload
switching architectures.
BSS is the world’s leading manufacturer of commercial
communications satellites and a major provider of space systems,
satellites and payloads for national defense, science and
environmental applications. The company was formed in October 2000
when Boeing acquired the Hughes Electronics satellite manufacturing
companies, which included Hughes Space and Communications Company,
Hughes Electron Dynamics, Spectrolab Inc., and Hughes Electronics’ 50
percent share of HRL Laboratories.
