ATK to Contribute $25,000 in Scholarships through Women in Aerospace Foundation
Arlington, Va., May 8, 2014 − ATK (NYSE: ATK) has agreed to contribute $25,000 to the Women in Aerospace (WIA) Foundation in order to fund scholarships for women interested in a career in the aerospace field.
The Foundation will award one $2,000 scholarship each year for 10 consecutive years to a woman who is studying engineering, math, or science at the undergraduate level. The ATK Scholarship will be awarded by the Foundation based on the student’s grades, letters of recommendation, and personal essay.
“We have an obligation to enable young women to excel in science and engineering fields,” said Mark DeYoung, President and CEO of ATK. “Our hope is that this scholarship will help inspire the next Sally Ride or Marie Curie.”
ATK is the first corporation to endow a scholarship through the WIA Foundation, and the company supports many other science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) initiatives across the country.
