Astrotech Corporation, (ASTC) and its Astrotech Space Operations subsidiary (ASO), leading providers of commercial space services, today announced that the U. S. Department of the Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) has selected ASO to provide payload processing services for the second in a series of Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) satellites.

Astrotech supported the first MUOS satellite that launched in February 2012 from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Last year, the Navy awarded ASO a contract for the initial MUOS satellite pre-launch support with the Navy’s exclusive right to exercise options for payload processing on up to four additional satellites.

“Astrotech looks forward to supporting the next MUOS satellite launch,” stated ASO General Manager Don M. White Jr. “We are proud to play a role in the MUOS program, doing our part towards improving satellite communications for U.S. forces.”

From Titusville, Florida, and Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, Astrotech Space Operations provides all support necessary for government and commercial customers to successfully process their satellite hardware for launch, including advanced planning; use of unique facilities; and spacecraft checkout, encapsulation, fueling and transport. Additionally, ASO has demonstrated expertise in design and fabrication of spacecraft processing facilities and ground support equipment “GSE”. In its 30-year history, Astrotech has supported the processing of nearly 300 spacecraft.
