Catch up on the symposia, meetings and events of the XXIX General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) with the Kai‘aleleiaka conference newspaper, which has now been uploaded online. This addition completes the recently digitized archive of IAU General Assembly newspapers.

One of the largest astronomy meetings ever held, the IAU XXIX General Assembly (http://astronomy2015.org) came to a close on 14 August 2015, after two intense weeks of conferencing and frontline astronomy in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, USA. If you didn’t attend — or you did but could only participate in a handful of the six symposia, 22 multi-session focus meetings, nine IAU Division meetings, and dozens of IAU Commission meetings — then you can catch up on what you missed with the conference daily newspaper (http://www.iau.org/publications/iau/ga_newspapers), which has now been uploaded online in a full 248-page PDF file. You can download each issue separately on the XXIX General Assembly website (http://astronomy2015.org/newspaper).

The XXIX General Assembly newspaper is titled Kai‘aleleiaka (“kah-EE ah lay-lay-ee AH-kah”), which means “the Milky Way” in Hawaiian. In addition to the 10 issues published during the General Assembly, an 11th issue now features articles and images from the closing ceremony.

Since the X General Assembly in Moscow in 1958, each triennial gathering of the IAU has produced a daily newspaper compiled by astronomers and science writers appointed by the host organization. It carries previews by plenary speakers and session chairs, news reports from each day’s meetings and activities, and program updates and travel tips from the local organizers.

The Kai‘aleleiaka newspaper files can be viewed in Adobe Acrobat Reader or any other PDF-compatible application. The archive of General Assembly newspapers (http://www.iau.org/publications/iau/ga_newspapers) is now available on the IAU website.
