Today the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development announced Canada’s space strategy. The document outlines the government’s priorities for Canada’s space program, including the Lunar Gateway mission, low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites, and the growing commercial space sector.

“Today’s announcement is another step for Canada’s continued leadership in space,” said Jim Quick, President and CEO of AIAC. “We’ve long called for a long-term strategy that gives Canadian companies and our government partner the essential information they need to invest, compete, and build on our position as a global space leader and innovator. Although more work needs to be done, we’re pleased to see the government’s announcement today.”

While some elements of the strategy have already been announced, other activities included in the document require further details regarding funding and timelines that will determine how and when they will be executed.

“The timely release of a fully costed and funded plan is a necessary next step. We look forward to continuing our work with the government on the implementation of the strategy,” added Mr. Quick.
