The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) have released their “2016 National Aerospace & Defense Workforce Summit: Proceedings Report & Recommendations.”

Report summarizes the proceedings of the 2016 National Aerospace & Defense Workforce Summit. The summit, which took place September 7–8, in Washington, DC, convened nearly 150 leaders from academia, government, industry, and nongovernment organizations. It was sponsored by 180 Skills LLC, The Boeing Company, Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Lockheed Martin Corporation, and Rolls-Royce.

Report provides current data about the trends and challenges in the promotion of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce development across the aerospace and defense (A&D) sector.

Report issues recommendations to promote careers in STEM fields, especially among minority and underrepresented population groups; to improve advocacy of A&D workforce needs to Congress; to enhance STEM education and to engage more students in grades K–12; to foster better relationships between businesses and educational institutions; and to develop the measurement tools and techniques necessary to chart progress in these areas.
