AGI will host “Space Exploration Day” at the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore on Sept. 10. This community
outreach event is being held on behalf of the Coalition for Space Exploration,
an alliance of national aerospace organizations that includes AGI. The
mission of the coalition is to generate public and Congressional support for
the United States’ refocused space policy – the Vision for Space Exploration –
that outlines affordable and achievable NASA initiatives for the next
30 years.

This free event will feature VIP speakers from the aerospace community,
including Dr. James Garvin, NASA’s chief scientist for Mars and Lunar
Exploration, and astronaut Robert Curbeam, Jr. A Baltimore native, Curbeam
has flown on two shuttle missions, logging nearly 600 hours in space including
more than 19 extravehicular hours in three space walks. Invited guests
include aerospace professionals; active and retired NASA astronauts; media;
political representatives; local teachers and students; and the general
public.

After the formal presentations, a press question-and-answer session will
be held, followed by photo and autograph opportunities with the guest
speakers, self-guided tours of the Maryland Science Center, and a catered
reception. (See detailed agenda below).

“Space exploration has historically benefited our country’s economy,
technology, and national security, as well as our innate desire for
discovery,” says Lauren Miller, AGI’s director of marketing. “We hope this
educational event will encourage public and industry support for the Vision
for Space Exploration so the journey continues.”
