Aerospace Selects Dr. Randy Villahermosa as General Manager for iLab

The Aerospace Corporation announced today the appointment of Dr. Randy Villahermosa as general manager for iLab, which was launched in 2016 to harness the company’s power of innovation and manage the company’s technical investment program. Villahermosa, currently the executive director for Innovation at The Aerospace Corporation, has been leading iLab since its inception and has been instrumental in its development.
 
Villahermosa joined Aerospace in 2002 after completing his doctorate in physical inorganic chemistry from the California Institute of Technology. Prior to pursuing his doctorate, Villahermosa received his Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry from Occidental College. He now has more than 14 years of experience in innovation, research and development, development of more than 20 satellite system elements, and innovation management.
 
He is responsible for leading innovation programs, culture transformation initiatives, and the corporation’s research and development portfolio. Villahermosa’s responsibilities span a broad range of science, technology, and innovation areas related to space systems, remote sensing, data analytics, and autonomous systems.
 
Prior to his current role, Villahermosa supported the development of multiple satellite systems for a wide variety of mission areas including missile defense sensors for the Air Force and the Missile Defense Agency, advanced technology satellites for the intelligence community, and space situational awareness satellite systems for the Air Force. He is also an expert in space materials and contamination control, and holds multiple patents in related technologies.
