Harris
Corporation, a leading manufacturer of radiation-hardened
(Rad-Hard) processors for spaceborne applications, announced today
that it has been awarded three contracts totaling $5.4 million to
provide its RH3000 processor modules for several next-generation
satellites manufactured by Ball Aerospace and Technologies
Corporation, Boulder, Colorado. The RH3000 processors will provide
on-board data processing for CloudSat and other new satellites.

“These satellite payload processor wins are significant for
Harris,” said Bob Henry, president, Harris Government Communications
Systems (GCSD). “Harris has been providing these technologies and
processor expertise to Ball for the past five years, and these new
programs continue to solidify our leadership position in spaceborne
Rad-Hard processors. Harris has manufactured more than 350 processors
for numerous spaceborne applications.”

The processor module is based on the Harris family of RH3000
32-bit microprocessors. The RH3000 processor family is flight-proven,
fully Rad-Hard for harsh space environments, and delivers 100 percent
instruction-by-instruction compatibility with commercial R3000
processors.

Harris GCSD conducts advanced research studies, develops
prototypes, and produces state-of-the-art airborne, spaceborne, and
terrestrial communications and information processing systems for
military and government agencies, their prime contractors, and the
company’s commercial businesses, as well as to select commercial
organizations worldwide.
