2020 Eugene M. Emme Award Winners

The American Astronautical Society is proud to announce this year’s winners of the Eugene M. Emme Astronautical Literature Awards.  These awards, named from NASA’s first Historian, recognize outstanding literature that works to advance the public’s understanding of astronautics. They reward originality, scholarship, and readability.   

The Eugene M. Emme Award winner is Teasel Muir-Harmony’s Operation Moonglow: A Political History of Project Apollo, published by Basic Books. The Eugene M. Emme Junior Award winner is John Rocco’s How We Got to the Moon: The People, Technology, and Daring Feats of Science Behind Humanity’s Greatest Adventure, published by Crown Books for Young Readers. Both recipients, with engaging content, have undoubtedly helped to further the general understanding of astronautics.  

Teasel Muir-Harmony’s Operation Moonglow: A Political History of Project Apollo, overviews the political history of the Apollo program during the exciting exploration of America’s space missions. Operation Moonglow paints a compelling picture of spaceflight, geopolitics, propaganda, and diplomacy during the Cold War. 

John Rocco’s How We Got to the Moon: The People, Technology, and Daring Feats of Science Behind Humanity’s Greatest Adventure,with beautiful illustrations, guides readers through the people and technology of the moon landing. As one of the most ambitious ventures in human history, this book tells the stories of the heroes who enabled a new future for humanity.  

The AAS Emme Awards will be presented at an AAS event in 2022. Please look for announcements on date and location for the awards presentations.
