SUMMARY:SDG18 Space For All\, on Earth and Beyond: Session for the U.N. General Assembly
DESCRIPTION:Space Renaissance International (SRI) and the National Space Society (NSS)\, on behalf of 47 space advocacy organizations (this alliance is expanding)\, will host a panel at the United Nations in New York\, on the 15th of September\, 2023\, from 9:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.\, to officially present their proposal for an 18th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)\, focused on Space Development\, to be added to the U.N. 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. \nThe hybrid panel will take place in the U.N. district\, United Nations Plaza\, 777 11th Floor\, just in front of the U.N. headquarters. \nIn addition to SRI and NSS\, the coalition includes The Mars Society\, the Lifeboat Foundation\, the Human Space Program\, the Moon Society\, Beyond Earth Institute\, Space Development Foundation\, EarthLight Foundation\, space agencies\, educational institutions\, and other organizations. The complete list of Co-promoters may be found online at: https://spacerenaissance.space/the-space18sdg-proposer-organizations/. \n\n\nThe 18th SDG proposal was initially announced at U.N. COPUOS session 66th (on June 5\, 2023) by Karlton Johnson (on behalf of NSS\, SRI\, and the co-promoters coalition). The 18th SDG fosters Universal and Sustainable Space Development\, Space for All\, on Earth\, and Beyond. The Space 18th SDG coalition underscores the tremendous social significance of the 17 SDGs and of 2030 – a critical date and key turning point in human history. Before this date\, some meaningful steps have to be undertaken to ensure full sustainability for human development\, launching the expansion of life\, communities\, civilian activities\, and the earthly biome beyond the limits of planet Earth. These activities will require a strong and sustainable global commitment to a strategy facilitating and boosting research and financial engagement that can significantly reduce the cost of space vehicles and space flight\, protect human life and health in space\, and design closed ecosystems with vegetation and water inside. The proposed 18th SDG will focus on the above goals and more – enabling significant contributions of space development to enhance global development and sustainability – and soliciting all of the interested dealers to make their part to overcome this great challenge. \nAs stated in the 1986 U.N. resolution\, “development” is a universal civil right[[1]]. Accordingly[[2]]\, earthlings must now decisively collaborate to expand civilization into outer space\, populating the geo-lunar space and the solar system with communities and industrial activities\, progressively moving our industrial development beyond Earth’s surface\, allowing Earth’s planetary ecosystems to restore\, earthly wildlife to rejuvenate\, oceans to recover\, and environmental pollution to be mitigated. \nAdding an 18th SDG to the 2030 Agenda to promote the Sustainable Development of Space will also provide urgent and essential information to the public regarding the profound humanistic reasons for expanding civilizations beyond Earth. \n“Space4All enhances the development of science\, technology\, peace\, business\, education\, and inspiration for all citizens\, and extending it on Earth and beyond is a key to our ecosystem survival\, progress\, responsible legacy\, and space Renaissance for our future\,” says Bernard Foing\, president of Space Renaissance International. \nAlfred Anzaldúa\, National Space Society (NSS)\, Board of Directors Member\, NSS UN COPUOS Coordinator: “A Space 18th SDG would be a beacon to guide Earth-Life into space to help fulfill the 17 SDGs in the long-term. The Earth’s resources are finite\, while space and its resources are virtually infinite. Only by expanding human communities and their supporting life forms into space can we achieve long-term sustainability for humans and supporting life forms everywhere\, including on Earth.” \nAdriano V. Autino\, Founder of Space Renaissance International: “The five years from 2025 to 2030 could be the most critical period in human history\, in which several social\, economic\, and environmental processes will come to a combined breaking point. Against the many bleak prospects\, the only perspective capable of giving hope and psychological power to the good willing peoples of Planet Earth is to kick off expanding civilization into outer space\, before 2030. This is the profound meaning of the Space 18th SDG.” \nLearn how to join the Space18thSDG coalition and support the proposal: https://space18thsdg.space/ \nFollow the 15th September Panel on YouTube:  https://youtube.com/live/3dyrsT5jtaM \nSign the petition for #Space18SDG on Change.org:  https://www.change.org/space18sdg \nContacts: \n\nadriano.autino@spacerenaissance.org +39 335 8244435\nalfred.anzaldua@nss.org +1 520 4095797\n\n[1] Declaration on the Right to Development adopted 04 December 1986 by General Assembly resolution 41/128 https://www.ohchr.org/en/instruments-mechanisms/instruments/declaration-right-development \n[2] “We are committed to making the right to development a reality for everyone and to freeing the entire human race from want.” The resolution\, adopted by the General Assembly 55/2. SUMMARY:NASA to Release\, Discuss Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Report
DESCRIPTION:NASA will host a media briefing at 10 a.m. EDT on Thursday\, Sept. 14\, at the agency’s headquarters in Washington to discuss the findings from an unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) independent study team it commissioned in 2022. \nAbout 30 minutes before the briefing\, the agency will publish the team’s full report online\, which aims to inform NASA on what possible data could be collected in the future to shed light on the nature and origin of UAP. The report is not a review or assessment of previous unidentifiable observations. \nNASA defines UAP as observations of events in the sky that cannot be identified as aircraft or known natural phenomena from a scientific perspective. There are currently a limited number of high-quality observations of UAP\, which make it impossible to draw firm scientific conclusions about their nature. \nThe briefing will stream live on NASA Television\, the NASA app\, and the agency’s website at: https://www.nasa.gov/live \nBriefing participants include: \n– NASA Administrator Bill Nelson\n– Nicola Fox\, associate administrator\, Science Mission Directorate\, NASA Headquarters in Washington\n– Dan Evans\, assistant deputy associate administrator for research\, NASA’s Science Mission Directorate\n– David Spergel\, president\, Simons Foundation and chair of NASA’s UAP independent study team \nTo participate in-person or by phone\, media must RSVP no later than two hours before the start of the event to Jennifer Dooren at: Jennifer.m.dooren@nasa.gov. The NASA Headquarters Mary W. Jackson building is located at 300 E St. SW in Washington\, D.C. \nNASA’s media accreditation policy is available online. \nThe UAP independent study team is a counsel of 16 community experts across diverse areas on matters relevant to potential methods of study for unidentified anomalous phenomena. NASA commissioned the study to examine UAP from a scientific perspective and create a roadmap for how to use data and the tools of science to move our understanding of UAP forward. \nA copy of the UAP study team’s report will be available online before the media event begins at: https://science.nasa.gov/uap/

SUMMARY:NASA ROSES-2023 APRA and H-LCAS Suborbital Research Information Webinar
DESCRIPTION:On September 6\, 2023 at 12 pm Eastern Time\, NASA will hold an informational webinar focused on the suborbital research aspects of the ROSES-2023 D.3. Astrophysics Research and Analysis (APRA) and B.9 Heliophysics Low Cost Access to Space (H-LCAS) program elements. \nSpecifically\, this webinar will provide prospective applicants with information regarding the APRA and H-LCAS calls\, the application process\, and the various suborbital research platforms (rocket-powered or balloon launch vehicles) available. For ROSES-2023\, NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD) and the Flight Opportunities program are augmenting and complementing NASA’s traditional suborbital research capabilities available from the Balloon Program Office and Sounding Rocket Program Office with the addition of a suite of NASA-contracted commercial suborbital research capabilities. This expanded portfolio of rocket-powered vehicles and high-altitude balloons offers H-LCAS and APRA researchers additional suborbital platform options\, expanded capabilities\, and higher flight cadence to further enable innovative suborbital investigations and technology testing. Detailed information regarding the various platforms and their corresponding capabilities can also be found on the SMD Suborbital Research webpage. \nSuborbital investigations submitted to APRA or H-LCAS must include a brief Payload Reference Document (PRD) at the time of proposal submission that provides basic information about the envisioned suborbital payload\, including flight test objectives and payload size. The PRD form has been posted under other documents on the NSPIRES webpages for APRA and H-LCAS. For those that cannot attend\, the webinar will be recorded and posted online in the SMD Suborbital Research webpage. \nWebex Info: \nDate and time: Wednesday\, September 6\, 2023 11:00 AM | (UTC-05:00) Central Time (US & Canada) \nJoin link:\nhttps://nasaevents.webex.com/nasaevents/j.php?MTID=mdde5fb50de0b28ea5d720ce5836339c9 \nWebinar number:\n2760 122 2016 \nWebinar password:\nuFbkv88HYg3 (83258884 from phones and video systems) \nJoin by phone\n+1-415-527-5035 United States Toll\n+1-312-500-3163 United States Toll (Chicago) \nAccess code: 276 012 22016 \nQuestions about this may be directed to Lucas Moxey at lucas.e.moxey@nasa.gov

DESCRIPTION:REGISTER https://exoplanets.nasa.gov/exep/events/457/register/\nAugust 8-10\, 2023 Time TBA\nRemote participation is available\nChairs: Brendan Crill (NASA/JPL) and Laura Coyle (Ball Aerospace) \nNASA has begun planning for an ambitious program to develop the Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) – the first in a panchromatic suite of Great Observatories recommended by the Astro2020 Decadal Survey. The high-level science goals of the mission are to directly image ~25 potentially Earth-like planets and spectroscopically characterize them for signs of life\, as well as enable transformative general astrophysics. The starlight suppression capability of HWO will require significant performance advances both in coronagraphy and telescope stability. \nTo establish a common foundation in starlight suppression and ultra-stable telescope technologies\, NASA’s Exoplanet Exploration Program is holding this hybrid workshop\, August 8-10\, 2023. \nThe goals of this free hybrid (in-person/remote) workshop are to: \nDiscuss current best understanding of required starlight suppression performance levels\nPresent the best performances to-date of key technologies and approaches (lab demonstrations\, modeling\, hardware) \nDiscuss the suppression/stability trade space for the observatory and the coronagraph (note: this will not include performing trades\, only mapping out the space). \nDiscuss remaining technical gaps and potential future efforts for maturation/risk reduction\nProvide a foundation for those interested in contributing to the Habitable Worlds Observatory
