SUMMARY:Beyond Earth 2023 Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The Beyond Earth Institute (BE) will again host the Beyond Earth Symposium on November 1-2\, 2023\, at the American University\, Washington School of Law\, in Washington\, DC. The Symposium will build on the success of BE’s inaugural event in October 2022. For more information\, visit https://beyondearthsymposium.org For press wishing to cover the event\, contact David Bullock at david@beyondearth.org. \nThis year we go deeper into the policy issues impacting the rapidly evolving space ecosystem. Stakeholders from across the industry\, government\, and international sectors will gather to examine the policy challenges of the moment and those that push the envelope to inspire the best chance for off-world migration in this century. \n“The success of the BE Symposium last year confirmed that we are on the right path\,” said BE President Steve Wolfe\, “The space community is now ready for a sober dialogue on the policies that can propel human spaceflight and habitation.” \nCourtney Stadd\, Executive Vice President of Beyond Earth\, added\, “Our growing list of sponsors\, as well as individual policy experts and organizations eager for BE to build on last year’s public-private sector engagement\, has generated momentum for continuing these in-person Space Symposia. We look forward to generating forward leaning concrete recommendations to ensure humanity’s continued off-planet communities that ultimately offer self-sustaining economic enterprises while benefiting our precious home planet.” \nHighlights of the Beyond Earth Symposium 2023: \nMore than 30 space policy thought leaders appearing at the Symposium include Lt. Gen. John E. Shaw\, Deputy Commander\, U.S. Space Command\, Matthew Daniels of the White House Office of Science and Technology\, and Courtney Stadd\, EVP of Beyond Earth Institute. \nThe session topics will introduce new thinking in each topic area. The audience will be drawn into the discussion. Session topics include: \n– We Go Together: Global Perspective on Space Development\n– Making the Case for Beyond Earth Communities\n– Ensuring the Success of Commercial Space Stations in a Post-ISS Era\n– From Surviving to Thriving in Space: Making Space Life Sciences A Priority\n– Building a Cislunar Ecosystem\n– Financing Pathways for Large-Scale Space Infrastructure and Communities \nProfessional networking at the BE Symposium will be a fusion of diverse expertise and development interests that will shape careers and help to stimulate business growth \nAbout the Beyond Earth Institute \nThe Beyond Earth Institute is a 501(c)(3) U.S. non-profit organization. It is at the heart of all related initiatives that impact the success of the space movement with respect to human expansion beyond Earth. Beyond Earth’s focus is on technology readiness\, worldwide public support\, and related public policy enactment\, including recommendations for policy initiatives. Beyond Earth conducts primary and secondary research\, then consolidates and publicizes reports to be delivered and presented widely throughout the space policy community both in the U.S. and internationally.\n. \nFor more information\, press only:\nDavid Bullock\n701-330-5602\ndavid@beyondearth.org \nFor more information on Beyond Earth Institute

SUMMARY:Software Defined Space Conference
DESCRIPTION:The third edition in the series dedicated to cyber security in space  “Software Defined Space Conference” (SDSC) takes place 1-2 November in Tallinn\, Estonia. \nWith software\, we can change the way we use and benefit from our space assets\, forecast and visualise future demand and bring the service providers and consumers together. \nThe added value of space technologies is already today created primarily on account of software and increasing connectivity. Through that\, in 2022 the space sector has entered a new era where cyber security plays an essential role in the continuity of service independence\, sustainability. This has in turn created a necessity to work on cyber security aspects of space systems already at design level. \nTherefore\, the focus of the event is on software development and cyber security for the space domain. With the aim to raise awareness of technologies\, opportunities\, commercialisation and growing the space community to support sustainable development in the sector.

The goal is to prepare for the arrival of the ESA/JUICE and NASA/Europa-Clipper missions in the Jovian system. This workshop\, held in Aix-en-Provence\, France\, is the first of a series to be held at 2-3 year intervals before the arrivals of the two missions around Jupiter. The workshops’ locations will alternate between Europe and the US to ensure broad international participation. \nThe Workshop on the Origins and Habitability of the Galilean Moons will be held at the Maison méditerranéenne des sciences de l’homme in Aix-en-Provence. This workshop is hosted by the Institut Origines of Aix-Marseille Université\, the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory\, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

SUMMARY:MilSat Symposium 2023
DESCRIPTION:The upcoming MilSat Symposium 2023 aims to establish novel means of communication between national space defense and the industry. As outdated methods of contracting the creation of customized satellites\, sensors\, ground equipment\, and software have become stagnant\, it has become increasingly essential for the Department of Defense (DoD) and the industry to communicate openly. The MilSat Symposium strives to establish these new channels of communication by bringing together leaders from the commercial space industry and defense decision-makers. \nThrough sessions\, keynote speeches\, and technical discussions\, influential experts will explore the most efficient and prompt solutions in developing and safeguarding crucial space assets. In addition to analyzing and discussing these solutions\, the sessions will also scrutinize the financial\, technical\, and logistical challenges encountered by the Space Force\, Space Command\, and commercial suppliers. Discover how you can contribute most efficiently to a more adaptable and competent space defense community.

SUMMARY:Transition to Commercial Lunar Operations Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In order to stimulate commercial participation in our return to the lunar surface\, our understanding of the initial commercial on-ramp of logistics support needs to be broadened and expanded. This workshop will begin the examination of how this could be done. \nIn this one-day workshop\, we will work to articulate the coordinated steps across stakeholders that will enable the transition a longer/sustained human presence on the lunar surface\, with particular emphasis on how commercial operations be stimulated from improving knowledge of supply and demand and through the development of robust commercial on-ramps. Pre-workshop materials and questions will be distributed so that progress can be made during the one-day workshop without devoting a large amount of time to overview talks. This information will be collated by the Workshop Steering Committee and sent out to participants prior to the workshop.

The plan is for the workshop to be interactive with the majority of time dedicated to discussions and spontaneous presentations. In addition to the invited topic talks\, attendees may submit abstracts to be considered for posters. Time will be allocated to poster discussions as well. This workshop is NOT intended to be conference-like with attendees listening to a series of short talks with little time for interaction and discussion. Scientists interested in working with Juno data and/or collaborating with the Juno team are encouraged to attend.
