Suomi NPP Satellite Detects Fires in Cambodia
This visible-light image shows dozens of fires burning in Cambodia.
Most of the fires burn in grass or cropland, which appears as a tan color in this image. This visible-light image was taken from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument aboard NASA-NOAA’s Suomi NPP satellite on Dec. 27, 2015, at 1:40 a.m. EST (6:40 UTC). The VIIRS image showed the heat signatures from fires in red.
VIIRS collects visible and infrared imagery and global observations of land, atmosphere, cryosphere and oceans.
