The Monitoring for Environment and Security in Africa (MESA) programme has released it first Continental Environmental Bulletin in english. The bulletin includes reports on the recent rainfall, vegetation, and marine primary production conditions in Africa, illustrated by colour-coded maps.
The bulletin is based on analysis of environmental indicators derived from satellite imagery, allowing cost effective monitoring of the environmental situation at the continental level.

MESA uses space-based and in-situ data to improve management of the environment and food security at continental, regional and national levels in Africa.

The European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) contributes to MESA through the provision of technical support for the maintenance of the reception stations; the EUMETCast dissemination system, support of users through the EUMETSAT Help Desk, and coordination of training activities.
