Description
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is announcing opportunities to participate in Earth Science Enterprise core research activities related to ocean and ice. Specifically, the Announcement (NRA-04-OES-02) seeks proposals for scientific investigations and research activities contributing to the continuation and enhancement of NASA’s Physical and Biological Oceanography Programs and the Cryospheric Sciences Program. In particular, this announcement seeks innovative investigations that utilize NASA’s observational data for investigations of ocean, ice, and climate processes. It also seeks proposals that utilize this knowledge in facilitating the development and evaluation of models and data assimilation systems that include representations of the oceanic and cryospheric aspects of the Earth’s climate system. The ESE has recently released an NRA for Carbon Cycle Science research that provides opportunities for complementary investigations that utilize remote sensing data to understand regional and global carbon cycling within the Earth System. Interested investigators should read both announcements carefully for direction on the best place to submit proposals that touch on aspects of the oceanic carbon cycle.
Total funds available for work selected under this NRA in Ocean and Ice are approximately $16M over three years. While there are no specific requirements for proposal budgets we do not expect budgets to exceed $250,000 per year, and in most cases are expected to be less.
The complete NRA will be available electronically on February 3, 2004, via the Internet at the Research Opportunities Web Page at http://research.nasa.gov under “Office of Earth Science (Code Y)”. A paper copy will be available to those who do not have access to Internet by calling (202) 358-3552 and leaving a voice mail message. Notice of Intent is due March 4, 2004. This announcement will be open through May 4, 2004, and proposals may be submitted at any time throughout this period.
