DMSP

OPS47 rev 41578 R+02 from HULA-B at 0324z on April 15:  No smooth record on at rise for OPS47; as a result, the crew real-time commanded the smooth record on.  The duration of the smooth record outage was 1 min 33 sec (without crew intervention the time would have been 3 min 8 sec).   This problem may be related to site change and is still under investigation.

POES

NOAA-16 rev 13191 / F at 1227z on April 14:  CDA reported an IMUX anomaly at 1234z.  The crew was unable to recover the GAC2A data set from the IMUX as a result.  GAC2A will be unrecoverable due to recorder management.

NOAA-11 rev 75069 / F at 0751z on April 15:  The SBUV grating drive is operating in a limited range between -225 and -410, which is a noticeably different range than was observed yesterday or during the previous pass.  No limit violations are occurring at this time, but during the past 8 hours, the grating motor temperature has risen from 20.15 to 25.56, the HVPS temperature has risen from 21.84 to 24.54, and the LVPS has risen from 23.20 to 27.26 degrees.  Note:  The 15 year old NOAA-11 SBUV is currently undergoing end-of-life testing.

GOES

At 1641z (1241 EDT), the first five GOES-9 full disk test images were successfully commanded and received.  The five test images will be commanded during the 1641z to 0644z period.  This test set of images will repeat on days 105, 106, 107, and 108, during the same 1600z-0700z period each day.  These images are not expected to be within INR or radiometric specification.  GOES-9 performance continues to be nominal.  Expected limit changes and momentum management actions continue.  GOES-9 is currently at approximately 162.57 E drifting at a westward rate of ~0.719 degrees per day toward 155 E longitude where it will support the GMS-5 replacement mission on April 25.

GOES-12 continues to drift at an eastward rate of ~0.33 degrees per day toward 75 degrees W until the stop maneuver is performed on approximately April 22.  Until GOES-12 arrives on-station, the GOES-12 will be retransmitted via GOES-8 (to minimize impacts to the users).

Eclipse operations for all spacecraft continue. Eclipse schedules for GOES-East and GOES-West (which can be used to track the day-to-day image deletions due to KOZ and eclipse) can be found at:  http://www.oso.noaa.gov/goes/koz-eclipse/koz-eclipse.htm

Major upcoming GOES milestones (Note:  These dates are subject to change)

  • April 16-19:  GOES-9 GVAR begins, INR startup with a 0.7 deg/day drift
  • April 22:  GOES-12 stops at 75 deg W; ancillary communication services (DCS, WEFAX, EMWIN, SAR) become operational.
  • April 24:  GOES-8 drift start westward from 75 W
  • April 25:  GOES-9 drift stop at 155 E

All GOES operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.
