The NASA Astrobiology Institute (NAI) is sponsoring two courses for astrobiology researchers during the summer of 2003.

The purpose of these 5-day intensive courses is to provide a cross-training educational experience in areas outside a researcher’s primary field of expertise. The course material is appropriate for professionals active in the field of astrobiology — this includes both graduate students and postdocs. Attendance is not limited to NAI members. The Institute intends that the courses will be offered and expanded in future years, as a service to the astrobiology community.

There will be two courses offered during the Summer of 2003:

Introduction to Planetary Science

  • Instructor: Bruce Jakosky, University of Colorado, and guest lecturers
  • Dates: July 31-August 4, 2003
  • Location: Flagstaff, AZ, and surrounding area

Introduction to the Microbial World

  • Instructor: Ken Nealson, University of Southern California, and guest lecturers
  • Dates: August 25-29, 2003
  • Location: USC Wrigley Marine Science Center, Catalina Island, CA

The deadline for applications is May 15, 2003. More information, including course outlines and an online application form, is available on the NAI website at:
