DMSP

The Peak control center had significant ground system problems on March 6 and 7 of last week.  By 2000z on March 7, PEAK was able to support passes using all three EPATHs.  The router between Peak and FBKS was returned to service by 0200z.  No data was lost as a result of this issue.

At 1100z on March 7, the SOCC DMSP simulator was declared inoperable.  The simulator was restored to service by 0815z on March 8.

POES

NOAA-17 rev 3640 / W at 1605z on March 7:  Operators placed DTR 5A in STIP record for 10 minutes as per RCP # 17_59_1.  At 1921z a STIP5A playback was attempted.  No data was recovered and DTR5 exhibited the same anomalous characteristics as with previous test.

NOAA-16 rev 12661 / F at 2250z on March 7:  GAC1A failed to lock on the frame synch from the mid S-Band but did lock on the bit synch.  Post pass attempts to transfer the data were unsuccessful and this appears to be a “mystery playback”.  DTR management prevented a replay of the data set.

NOAA-16 rev 12688 / F at 2047z on March 9:   No data from this pass could be recovered from the IMUX wideband recorder when post-pass transfers were attempted.   CDA  investigated, but could not determine whether the IMUX failed to record the data or lost it post-pass.  GAC2B, LAC1A, and LAC4A could not be replayed from the spacecraft due to recorder management and are lost.   A replay of LAC2A took place at  2227z, with 100% of the data being recovered.

GOES

Between 1324z and 1336z on March 7, MDL communications link testing took place successfully.

Between 2134z and 2130z on March 7 and 8, GOES-10 images were corrupted by seasonal solar RFI effects.

Eclipse operations for all spacecraft continue. Eclipse schedules for GOES-8 and GOES-10 (which can be used to track the day-to-day image deletions due to KOZ and eclipse) can be found at:  http://www.oso.noaa.gov/goes/koz-eclipse/koz-eclipse.htm

GOES-12 remains in a test phase, in normal on-orbit mode, drifting at an eastward rate of ~0.33 degrees per day toward the GOES-East position where it will replace GOES-8 in April.  Routine SXI imaging is proceeding along with SXI test exposures.  SXI testing took place yesterday between 1908z and 2106z.

GOES-9 is currently at approximately 171.3 W drifting at a westward rate of ~0.75 degrees per day toward 155 E longitude where it will support the GMS-5 replacement mission in April.

GOES operations were nominal over the past 72 hours.
