SPACE WEATHER ADVISORY OUTLOOK #02- 42
2002 October 15 at 12:24 p.m. MDT (2002 October 15 1824 UTC)
**** SPACE WEATHER OUTLOOK ****
Summary For October 7-13
Space weather reached moderate levels. Category G2 (moderate)
geomagnetic storms were observed on October 7th and 8th. Category G1
(minor) storms were observed on October 9th and 10th. These
geomagnetic storms were primarily due to a southward oriented
interplanetary magnetic field. A category R1 (minor) radio blackout
occurred late on October 13th at 6:10 P.M. MDT (14/0010 UTC) due to an
energetic solar flare. For a list of adverse system effects related to
space weather storms, please refer to the NOAA Space Weather Scales.
Outlook For October 16-22
Space weather is expected to reach the minor levels. Category G1
(moderate) geomagnetic storms are possible early in the week due to the
category R1 flare mentioned above. Additional category R1 (minor)
radio blackouts are possible during the week.
