SPECIAL LABORATORY SESSION AT FALL DPS MEETING
Special Session (#31) on Laboratory Planetary Science
Laboratory Measurements in Support of CasinniCasinni’s encounter with Saturn and the deployment of the Huygens
probe to Titan will provide the most detailed view of this system to
date. Proper interpretation of the data returned and the model
improvements that follow from these observations will depend
critically on the availability and accuracy of laboratory data for
appropriate species and processes. A special session (#31) of DPS
2002 will be convened to address these laboratory needs and the
current state of laboratory results as they relate to this mission.
The session will open with an invited talk that provides an outline
of the mission and highlights areas where laboratory measurements are
needed. This overview will be followed by contributed oral
presentations of relevant results from laboratory experimentalists.
Contributed papers (oral or poster) in laboratory studies bearing on
this or any other aspect of planetary sciences may also be designated
for presentation in the usual laboratory session. If their subject
matter is relevant to Casinni, papers in this latter session may be
referred for inclusion in the special session. If you intend to
submit an abstract to the special session (deadline August 5 via
regular abstract submission process), please forward a copy to
the convener using the contact information listed below.Convener: John E. Allen, Jr.
