ANNOUNCEMENTS
————-
* The access to the South entrance of Building 3 by the
auditorium is open. Some work is still in progress, so
continue to use caution when walking through the area.

* RHESSI target for today is AR 0001; target for tomorrow
is TBD.

* Security scans will be postponed from Wednesday to a later date.

* PDU Maintenance on June 20 at 12:40pm to 3:20pm local time.

* No NRT for up to an hour at 11am on Thursday for CELIAS patches.

* Remarkable data from the new TIMED mission on the ionospheric
and mesospheric response to a series of solar-terrestrial storms
in 2002 April has led to a call for a workshop as soon as
possible; see:

http://umbra.nascom.nasa.gov/soho/storms/draft_announcement.html

The hope is that the workshop will then lead to a special,
interdisciplinary session at the Fall AGU meeting. Nat Gopalswamy
(Code 695; gopals@fugee.gsfc.nasa.gov) has agreed to act as the
SOHO representative in the organization of the workshop. Please
contact him or the organizers (see the Web page for contact info)
if you’re interested in participating.

* Prof. Tyan Yeh from Boulder will give a set of 5 lectures on
The Dynamics of Flux Ropes in the Corona-Interplanetary Space
at Bldg 26, Rm G-10, at 11:00am on the following days:

Lecture 1 (June 20, Thursday): Magnetohydrodynamic description
of a plasma

Lecture 2 (June 27, Thursday): Lagrangian description of a flux rope

Lecture 3in/B8July 2, Tuesday): Magnetic structure of a flux rope with
circular cross-sections

Lecture 4 (July 11, Thursday): Hydromagnetic buoyancy force on a
flux rope

Lecture 5 (July 18, Thursday): Equations for parameters that
characterize a flux rope

INSTRUMENT STATUS
—————–
CDS: Nominal. Sunspot study and sunspot oscillations study on
AR 0001. Tomorrow: TBD.

UVCS: Nominal. 24-hour synoptic. Tomorrow: Cassini conjunction
and mini-synoptic.

LASCO: C2/C3 synoptics and JOP159. There is additional stray
light in the current C3 images. At present the reason
is unknown but the more obvious causes are being
investigated. Please note that the additional light is
not at a sufficient level to pose any threat to
instrument health.

EIT: Nominal. 195 CME watch and synoptics.

MDI: Nominal. High resolution dopplergrams and magnetograms.

TRACE: Nominal. Observing AR0001.
