NGST Project Weekly News Update 10 May 2002
Hi Folks,
We have now officially closed discussions with our Phase 2 contract
offerors, and they are presumably working hard on their best and
final offers. We expect these shortly, and will commence the
evaluation of them immediately upon receipt. While I had originally
hoped to have a prime on board by the AAS meeting in Albuquerque in
June, we will have to wait a bit longer, I’m afraid. But one must
take the longer view in all these things, as I often have to remind
myself, in that the resulting product (and initial conditions) will
be improved over what it might have been otherwise.
Our next NASA/ESA Bilateral will be taking place next week in Saclay.
Discussions will continue on several fronts, including MOU
development processes and gates, export controls restrictions and the
implications of the new launch schedule to our international
partners. We will review progress on all of the various ESA and
US-led studies, such as the ESA-sponsored cryostat study and the GSFC
MEMS developments on this side of the Atlantic.
Work continues across the project team on our “Day One” activity
planning. This notion of day one refers to what types of interchanges
we will be having with the newly-selected prime contractor on the
first day after award. Each discipline has been asked to prepare a
plan and review it at the next project monthly meeting the last
Tuesday in May.
I’ll report back after the Bilateral meeting on our progress. Till then,
yours,
bernie
